Greetings,
Tilton School is rapidly approaching the conclusion of the 2012-2013 school year. In recent weeks I have enjoyed sitting in the Fred A. Smart Chapel with the Tilton Community during School Meetings. There has been a sense of pride as the college acceptance announcements have been read. I find it hard to believe that I will sit with my colleagues and watch my 27th Tilton School graduation in less than a month! This year we are saying goodbye to an exceptional class that has continued to set a good example throughout this year of transition. I look forward to welcoming them to the Alumni Association at the end of May and seeing everything they will accomplish in the future.
This year has been nothing short of extraordinary. With our Annual Fund campaign of Strength in Numbers, we have seen an increase in participation among our constituent groups and we are on our way to making our Annual Fund goal of $650,000 by June 30. Additionally, we have also been fortunate to receive two extremely generous gifts from alumni.
The first was a $500,000 bequest from Arthur Sweatt ’49. His gift is being invested into campus improvements including security and upgrades to the Art Department. New recording equipment was recently installed and plans are in place to build a dance studio. If you are interested in learning about Planned Giving or would like to find out about joining the Tilton Society, please visit our Planned Giving page.
J. Christopher Burch ’72 surprised Tilton School in April with a gift of $1.3 million – the single largest cash gift in the school’s history. Burch visited campus on April 5 to announce with Head of School Peter Saliba that his donation will be put towards the construction of a new artificial turf field.
It is my hope that these two gifts will start the momentum of giving among our constituent groups. Head of School Peter Saliba has been busy working with the Board of Trustees to develop a Strategic Vision based on the input of alumni, parents, past parents, friends of Tilton, faculty and students. Look for an update of the Strategic Vision in the Spring 2013 edition of 1845.
Please join me in finishing the 2012-2013 year on an exceptional note by donating to the Annual Fund and giving back to a school that helped you discover the power of your potential.
I thank you for your continued support of Tilton School, and it is my hope that you will join us on campus for Alumni Weekend on June 14-16, 2013.
