International Students

International students enrich the Tilton Community in so many ways, and we’re proud to celebrate our international student community.

Approximately 25 percent of Tilton students come  from outside of the United States, so we understand the unique opportunities that come with living and studying abroad.

Tilton’s International Student Coordinator works closely with students to help them access all the  academic and cultural experiences that  Tilton has to offer.

Recent international students have come from Canada, China, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Malawi, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey.

All  international students receive an  orientation program focused on adjusting to life in the United States. We help students with  details like cell phones, bank accounts, and airport transportation—and we we work hard to ensure that they are comfortable in their new home before classes begin!

Some international families visit our campus in person, and sometimes with an educational consultant. Many families prefer a virtual tour, and we are happy to provide tours via video messaging!

English for Speakers of Other Languages

Our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL, ELL, ESL) program is delivered through Tilton’s Center for Academic Achievement .  ESOL is serves students who require additional English instruction to supplement their work in a standard English class.

ESOL develops skills in academic English, with an emphasis on reading and writing. The program prepares students for college or university study, in future jobs, and in personal endeavors in English speaking cultures.

Integrated Language Support

Designed for English language learners who need extra support for success in their academic courses. Integrated Language Support (ILS)  emphasizes  vocabulary, sentence grammar, reading, writing and speaking. Homework assignments from other classes serve as the foundation for ILS work. The development of key skills is assessed throughout the year.

A school that connects

“Michael has always been very witty and loves to joke with his friends. In the rigorous academic atmosphere of Chinese schools, it was hard for him to express his true self. This was one of the reasons why I decided to send my only son to study abroad. I’m so glad he has opened up at Tilton and is now able to freely show off his fun-loving side.”

Flags adorn the walls of our dining hall, representing the many countries or origin for our students and alumni–and each year we host an international dinner where the entire student body can enjoy the flavors and cultures of our Rams from overseas!
