The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Tilton School is both an independent program and an integrated element of the school’s English Department. Its mission is simple: to meet the specific needs of non-native English speakers by preparing students for successful learning experiences in all academic program offerings prior to graduation and for success in all areas of personal and social achievement in an English language environment. Beyond language skills, ESL at Tilton plays an important role in motivating students to realize their educational potential and to reach beyond their comfort zone.

Tilton School encourages our ESL students to become involved with, and take leadership roles in, groups and activities outside the classroom further enhancing the Tilton experience for all students.

Our annual International Fair is a popular event and is an opportunity for Tilton’s international students, staff and faculty to share information about their cultures, traditions and customs. The fair is co-sponsored by the World Language Department and English as a Second Language Program and has been an annual event for more than 10 years.
