Each year Tilton School honors some of its most deserving alumni by honoring them as the recipient of one of the school’s various awards. Every year during Alumni Weekend Tilton School recognizes outstanding alumni during School Meeting on Saturday. Four awards for consideration are Alumnus of the Year, George L. Plimpton Award, John Charles Daley Award, and Artist Hall of Fame.

Every other year during Powder Keg weekend, Tilton inducts alumni and former coaches into the Athletic Hall of Fame.

Alumni Award Descriptions

Alumnus of the Year

The Alumnus of the Year Award, created in 1966, must be given to an alumnus or a group of alumni.

This award is presented to an alumnus who has made an outstanding contribution to his/her alma mater. Such contribution can be that which has had an impact on the school within a relatively short time or perhaps a less dramatic but substantial impact over a long period of time.

Artist Hall of Fame

New in 2011, the Artist Hall of Fame Award looks to celebrate the achievements of Tilton School alumni/ae in the visual, performing or literary arts and looks to inspire current students who aspire to live and work in these fields.

Athletic Hall of Fame

The Athletic Hall of Fame, established in 1986, honors alumni or coaches who are recognized for their significant athletic achievements either at Tilton or in years following.

Criteria for Nomination
Graduation from Tilton at least five years ago or coached Tilton team(s) while a member of the Tilton School faculty.

George L. Plimpton Award

The George L. Plimpton Award is named for George Lincoln Plimpton, who served as Headmaster of Tilton School from 1896 to 1929, and was a member of the Board of Trustees until 1945. His leadership and vision shepherded Tilton School through a half century of incredible growth. Since 1953, Tilton School has recognized the outstanding achievements and significant contributions to society of its alumni with the George L. Plimpton award.

John Charles Daly Award

The John Charles Daly Award is presented by the Head of School to a friend or alumnus/a of Tilton whose pursuit of excellence and deep commitment as a member of the School family resembles that of John Daly’s involvement with Tilton: continuous and widely known expressions of support in word and deed, inspiring others to reach goals that common experience dictates are impossible.
