Ending the season with 5 games in 6 days, proved to be a test of the team's endurance and mental toughness where after being crowned NEPSAC Class AA Champions, they moved on to the National Prep School Championship where they advanced to the semi-finals. Their dedication paid off as NEPSAC named a player of the year, coach of the year, two All-NEPSAC team members, and three honorable mentions from the team.
It is not just the impressive record of 29-4 that influenced the naming of head boys’ varsity basketball coach Marcus O’Neil as the 2018 NEPSAC Coach of the Year. It is his passion and love for the game and his connection with his players.
Assistant Coach Liam McMahon says, “Coach O'Neil’s passion for the game is unmatched and highly contagious. He focuses on each player's development, always looking to put them into the situation where the individual, as well as the team, can be successful. His connection with the players on and off the court elevates them to the next level not only as a player but also as a person. He has created a true sense of family that I have enjoyed every second being a part of.”
Marcus O’Neil completed his 13th year as head coach of the varsity boys’ basketball team. Under his leadership, the team has been crowned NEPSAC Class B Champions in 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2010 and Class AA Champions in 2011 and 2015, finalists in 2012 and 2017, and champions again in 2018. O’Neil has coached at the high school, club and collegiate level. O’Neil is a college counselor for Tilton School.
