Four Tilton School student-athletes have signed their National Letters of Intent for the 2018-2019 collegiate year.
Abigail Settelmeyer - basketball, University of Vermont
Marcus Zegarowski - basketball, Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.
Tia Raspante - field hockey, Siena College, Albany, N.Y.
Owen McCuin - lacrosse, Southern New Hampshire University
Abigail Settelmeyer '18 hails from Marblehead, Mass. Abigail will play for the Catamounts at the University of Vermont in 2018-2019. This is Abby's second year in the Tilton School girls' basketball program and in just one short year she has improved immensely. She is expected to have a very important role during Tilton’s quest to win the program's third straight NEPSAC Championship.
Athletic Director and Girls’ Varsity basketball Coach Tara Brisson has had the pleasure of watching her grow as a player since 2016.
"I couldn't be happier for Abby as she achieved her ultimate goal of playing Division I basketball and at her dream school nonetheless. UVM is not only getting a hard working and dedicated player, but they are also getting a great teammate and person as well. Her improvement in her time at Tilton School is indescribable and she will only continue to improve during her senior year. She has the will to work and the will to win, I can't wait to have another year to coach her and watch her excel. UVM is very lucky to have her next year!" Brisson said.
Marcus Zegarowski '18 comes from South Hamilton, Mass. Marcus will play attend Creighton University to play for Coach Greg McDermott. Marcus is Tilton School’s returning Most Valuable Player and has started at Tilton since his sophomore year. He is closing in on 1,000 career Tilton points. As a junior, Marcus averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals per game, helpings to lead Tilton to the NEPSAC AA Championship game. He also received an invitation to the National Prep Championship tournament.
The Boys’ Varsity basketball Coach Marcus O’Neil said “Marcus Zegarowski is everything you want in a player. He is competitive, hard-working, unselfish and very skilled. I expect him to have a tremendous career for one of college basketball’s best coaches and programs.”
Tia Raspante '18 comes from East Sandwich, Mass. Tia has played field hockey throughout her entire career at Tilton School. In total, she achieved 38 career assists and 74 total career goals. In her senior year alone she made or assisted 59 total points. Tia will attend Siena College in Albany, N.Y. for the 2018-2019 school year.
Tilton School’s new head coach for varsity field hockey, Chapel Love, speaks volumes for Tia’s potential and spirit. “Tia is the kind of player that enriches a program in every way; she's dedicated, talented, supportive of her teammates and exhibits the highest level of sportsmanship. Tilton was lucky to have her, and we are excited to see what she accomplishes at Siena.”
Last but not least, Owen McCuin '18, who comes from Hinesburg, VT, signed with Southern New Hampshire University. Owen had an immediate impact on the boys' lacrosse program at Tilton, following in the footsteps of his older brother Hoyt McCuin '16 (who signed his own NLI to Albany back in 2015). Owen was a captain and leading scorer for the 2017 team tallying 31 goals and 17 assists.
Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach, Luke Santoro, says "Owen is a terrific young man and player. He will be a great addition to both the SNHU men's lacrosse team and community. In his time at Tilton, he has made a lasting impact on the program, and will certainly be a player we miss in the future."
Owen is a very intelligent player and a leader on the field. He controls the pace and tempo of the offense, and at times it feels like the lacrosse team has a third coach on the field. Owen is always looking to improve his game, as well as helping his teammates take their game to the next level.
"As an athletic director, I couldn't be more proud of Marcus, Abby, Tia and Owen for signing their National Letters of Intent. These student-athletes all sum up exactly what it means to be a Ram. They are thoughtful, determined and hardworking members of our community and it means so much to me to watch them achieve their dreams. We have watched them grow up into incredible young adults and I'm excited to watch them make their mark in college next year," Brisson says of the athletes she has watched progress to this level of success.
Tilton School would like to formally congratulate Abigail Settelmeyer, Marcus Zegarowski, and Tia Raspante on their tremendous work ethic, their passion, and teamwork throughout their years. Your hard work has paid off, and everyone in the Tilton community looks forward to watching you excel in college!
